A new and unique PRS guitar
PRS Guitars and Periphery’s Mark Holcomb didn’t wait until the 22nd of January in Anaheim to reveal the newest addition to PRS’ signature guitar line-up. The PRS Mark Holcomb Limited Edition will be a very unique instrument though. The basis is a Custom 24 model with quilted maple “10 Top”, Pattern Thin maple neck and and selected, quite dark ebony fretboard.
But here’s the first unique feature…
25,5″ scale, PRS Hardtail bridge and Seymour Duncan signature pickups
The Mark Holcomb Limited Edition comes with a full 25,5″ scale, while PRS normally features the 25″ (635mm) scale length which is pretty much in the middle between a Strat and a Les Paul. According to Mark the reason for that is basically an improved string tension for lower tunings and the fact, that he is blessed with quite big hands and long fingers.
Especially for this model, PRS designed a new hardtail bridge design called the “PRS Plate–Style” bridge. It looks very similar to a PRS tremolo, but features a very thick base-plate for optimized sustain.
The Mark Holcomb Limited Edition is equipped with his new signature pickups, which are called “Alpha” and “Omega” and were designed in collaboration with Seymour Duncan. Unfortunately, at this point there is no information if these humbuckers will be available for purchase and when.
Limited order window, but no limitation in numbers
According to the information on PRS’ homepage, the Mark Holcomb Limited Edition will not be limited in the number of guitars produced, but it will only be possible to order instruments between the 6th of January and the 6th of March 2015. The price will be around 4600€.
